I volunteered to teach the 5th/6th grade class while Aaron participated in the adult sessions. The kids were great and had a blast with the construction theme (hard hats, caution tape, etc.). I wish I had taken more pictures, but I was busy and simply forgot (a trend that seems to be continuing into the summer).
Meanwhile, in the 5th/6th grade class we were discussing how the "church" is really made of believers rather than bricks and mortar, so I sang a childhood song that drives home the point. One that I thought they would fondly recall... The church is not a building, the church is not a steeple, the church is not a resting place, the church is the people.
Well, they looked at me like I had two heads, and not just because I was singing. None of them had ever heard it before?!! Even my adult assistant. Does anyone else remember this song?? I thought it was a Bible school classic.
Regardless, it was an encouraging morning that was fun to share with young and old. We closed with a hot dog lunch, and I attempted to make Hard Hat cookies for dessert. Rolling out 100 of these babies all Friday/evening on the heels of our traumatic morning (see below) did not go exactly as I envisioned, but they were still a big hit.
For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people. ~2 Corinthians 6:16.
I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. ~1 Timothy 3:15

Paige,
What a great song for your VBS class. I've never heard of it either. Is the tune familiar?
Ginny
