Laundry Day Arsenal

Do you use any of these products to wash your clothes? I do! Thanks to some nifty tips and tricks some wise folks shared with me that I thought I might pass along...
I'll start with Grandma's Spot Remover (the little bottle with the blue cap). My mom passed along this little wonder which normally does the trick on pesky little spots and stains, especially from oil, grease, blood, grass, and food. However, there are those stubborn things that require a much tougher approach...

Cue, WD-40! I must credit Amanda B. for teaching me this little trick. No, WD-40 is not just for irritating squeaky hinges. It's magic when it comes to let's say, permanent marker, or colors that bleed in the wash that you don't discover until you've dried the load and set it "permanently" into the fabric. Ugh! No ma'am, not a problem with my good friend WD! Of course you might have to spray, wash, spray, wash. And then wash again to get rid of the smell. But if you stick with it, it will help rescue and renew your beloved article of clothing.

Now, salt and lemon juice you might ask? That's my standby for rust stains. Where do such stains come from, I'll never know, but a squirt of juice and a dab of salt followed by an afternoon of soaking up the sun (the clothing, not you) has never let me down. I learned this tip from the book Mary Ellen's Best of Helpful Hints given to me by my mother-in-law. It's packed with page after page of helpful solutions to household problems.

Oh, and Cascade! Not only is it for dishes, but throw a scoop-full in your load of whites, and say good-bye to dingyness (is that a word?)!

Happy washing! And right on cue, my dryer in buzzing!
