Remembering Lily

We returned to my parents house from Ohio to find their dog, Lily, very sick.  This is pretty disgusting, but she had eaten a squirrel a day before we returned and it caused quite a few complications for her, including severe damage to her trachea.  She was having a terrible time breathing and was suffering so badly, it was hard to watch.  She could barely move and I sat with her a few moments before my dad took her to the vet to say good-bye.  I was still living at home when my family got her as a puppy, so I felt like she was mine, too.  Her and Maddie had become good buddies over the years.  In fact, Aaron and I were still just dating when my family got her. She was a crazy nut of a dog, but we loved her anyways.  She lived a good doggy life and she will be missed.

Certainly, there are many worse things, but losing a pet is a pretty miserable feeling.  They are faithful companions,  they see the good and the bad, yet loyally stick by your side.  It made me appreciate our pup who's starting to make her way up in years herself and I'm thankful for the furry friend she is to us (even if licks too much!).
